Online course: Art of the Startup

Art of the Startup is a course for those who know they want to start their own company, but they have no idea what problem to solve, let alone how to solve it. It features 20 incredible YC founders & Venture Capitalists and the main instructor is Justin Kan (founder of Twitch).

My roles in creating this course:

Lead writer: There are so many people that want to start their own business, but don’t know where to find the right resources to follow. Who better to learn from, than two dozen startup founders in varying stages of their company? I interviewed nearly 20 experts in order to write this course. YC founders shared their best advice and biggest pitfalls, Venture Capitalists disclosed what they look for in founders, and a startup lawyer answers the most common questions that new founders ask.

Creative director: Creatively speaking, this was a special course partially due to the topic: normally when business lessons are taught, they’re a bit dry and dull - the kind of lecture that might be informative but it also might make you fall asleep due to sheer boredom. We wanted to give our students a better experience. I wanted to create something that felt like Netflix produced it: beautiful montages, well-designed sets, artistic typography. As you watch it, it almost feels like a documentary yet you’re learning specific, actionable steps.

I managed every part of the creative process, including: writing the visuals into the script, creating and enforcing a design style guide, conceptualizing and building our set, and managing our post-production team of video editors, motion graphics artists, and graphic designers.

Launch manager: I created a product launch timeline that our engineering, production, marketing, and operations team used to stay on track. I also created the material for the marketing funnel, including: writing pre-launch video content, email marketing funnel, sales page copy, and video sales letter.
